Carl Weathers, Iconic Actor Known for “Rocky” Passes Away at 76



Carl Weathers, the beloved actor who rose to fame as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies has passed away at the age of 76. His family confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep on February 1, 2024.

Weathers initially made a name for himself as a professional football player with the Oakland Raiders. He played as a linebacker in the NFL before transitioning to a career in acting.

Weathers became a household name when he portrayed Apollo Creed, the charismatic and fierce opponent of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa, in the iconic “Rocky” film series. His portrayal of the heavyweight champion resonated with audiences, and the chemistry between Weathers and Stallone became legendary.

Weathers maintained his popularity for decades and starred in other popular movies like The Predator and Happy Gilmore.

Weathers earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama series portraying Greef Karga in the Mandalorian.
