The Brockton City counsel does not normally take part in naming city streets, they had not done so in 17 years, but the recent untimely passing of local boxing legend Marvin Hagler forced them into action. The Brockton City Council voted unanimously Monday night to name a new street Marvin Hagler Drive.
Hagler, was 62-3-2 with 52 knockouts in his legendary career and the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to April 6, 1987. Hagler died at the age of 66 in March at his home in New Hampshire. Hagler was born in Newark, New Jersey, and moved with his family to Brockton in the late 1960s.
The pride of Brockton, MA.
