A Methuen Man Is Splitting His $1 Million Dollar Prize With His Friend For A Selfless Act Of Kindness

A Methuen, Massachusetts man won $1 million on a scratch ticket, and he plans to split the jackpot with a friend for doing him a solid without any expectations in return.

The Massachusetts State Lottery said Eric Cochrane of Methuen was the winner of a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$10,000,000 Winter Riches” instant ticket game.

Cochrane had brought his son’s guitar to his friend John Galvin’s guitar store for repair.

According to lottery officials, Galvin did not charge Cochrane for the repair, since his son had a health issue earlier in the week.

Cochrane insisted that Galvin accept at least $40, but Galvin refused any sort of payment.

According to lottery officials, Cochrane decided that he would purchase two $20 instant tickets and told his friend, “If I win $1 million, we are splitting it.”

As luck would have it Cochrane had the winning ticket and they were on their way to claim the prize.

Cochrane chose the cash option and receiving a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

Cochrane purchased the winning ticket at Howe Street Superette in Methuen. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
