Not everyone is lucky enough to meet their favorite athletes, but sometimes luck is on your side. One Red Sox fan got the chance to unexpectedly meet Jason Varitek at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH because he happened to be wearing his T-shirt.
Catherine Varitek, wife of the former Red Sox catcher, posted a video on Twitter on Tuesday in where Jason Varitek approached a fan who was in line for pizza after they noticed he was wearing Varitek’s Red Sox No. 33 T-shirt jersey.
Varitek asked the fan how his food was. The fan seemed more concerned in finding the stranger a better place to grab a slice of pizza. The fan didn’t notice that it was Varitek speaking to him, at which point Catherine Varitek tried to help him out by mentioning the T-shirt. He said he’s “always” a fan of Varitek and that “sometimes you still see him at the games.”
The fan still had no clue he was actually speaking with Varitek so they finally clued him in.
“She made me come over and say hello. I’m Jason,” Varitek said with an outstretched hand.
“Dude,” the fan said. “Oh my God, it’s Jason Varitek. Dude, you got me. What are the odds?”
